Annual Council - 09:11 pm, Sun 20th May 2007

Tomorrow is the first full meeting of the Annual Council since the local elections.  We'll say goodbye to outgoing Mayor, Allan Matthews - I look forward to seconding the motion of appreciation to Allan - he's been a fantastic Mayor and ambassador for our town - we're all gutted that he was amongst those who lost their seats.  It will be strange to be sat on the opposition benches, but hopefully that will spur us on to expose the weaknesses and ideological failings of the Tories - which will become apparent soon enough.

On a more positive note, my ward colleague, Cllr Gary Coleman is to become Deputy Mayor - not bad for a new boy!

We have started (already) to see the sort of things the Tories have planned for our town - their illustrious leader was in the local paper saying "we will not cut back on services to vulnerable people, but....." You can't be equivocal about that sort of thing! Either you're going to cut back or you're not - no prizes for guessing which way it will go...
